Code of Conduct

⚾️ Code of Conduct ⚾️

We, the Halifax Midget Baseball Association(HMBA), have implemented the following Code of Conduct.

***Any person (parent, spectator, sibling, etc) who is guilty of improper conduct at any game/tournament (home or away) or any practice may be asked to leave the sports facility immediately and may be suspended from the following game. Depending on the severity of the offense, a multiple game suspension or season forfeiture of the privilege of attending all games may be enforced.

***We will not tolerate any abusive (verbal or physical) or confrontational behavior against players, coaches, umpires, league officials, or other spectators. At no time will it be acceptable to question, discuss, or confront coaches/umpires/other spectators at the game field immediately prior to a game, during a game, or immediately after a game. Our coaches are volunteers who are there for the entire team, and we request that you respect the rest of the team and address your concerns to the coach at a time that would not distract from the team.

Preamble:

The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Good Citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these "Six Pillars of Character”.

I agree and will notify my family and friends who may attend games/tournaments of the following:

1. Children will not be forced to participate in sports

2. Children participate to have fun, and the game is for the youth and not the adults.

3. The coach must be notified of any limitations that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.

4. It is the parents/spectators responsibility to learn the rules of the games and policies of the League.

5. All coaches, umpires, spectators, etc. will be positive role models for all players and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy for all players, coaches, umpires, spectators, etc. at every game, practice, and other sporting events. No unsportsmanlike conduct will be tolerated towards umpires, coaches, players, or other spectators, etc.

6. No encouragement of behaviors that would endanger the health and well being of athletes will be tolerated.

7. All players, coaches, umpires, spectators, etc. are expected to teach the children to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

8. All players, coaches, umpires, spectators, etc. are expected to treat each other with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex, or ability.

9. Players should be encouraged and acknowledged for doing their best regardless of the outcome of the game.

10. Players should be praised for competing fairly and trying hard regardless of the outcome of the game.

11. Players should never be ridiculed or yelled at by their family for making a mistake or losing a game.

12. As a player progresses through the age levels, appropriate skill development will be emphasized.

13. Use of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol will not be tolerated on HMBA property.

14. Parents and other spectators are not allowed in the dugout during the game.
